Last updated: November 2026 ยท eLibrary Africa is operated by Thirdsan Enterprises Ltd
This policy explains what information eLibrary Africa collects when you use our website or mobile app, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We've written it to describe what the platform actually does, not a generic template.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Phone number | Your account identity โ we use it to send a one-time login code via SMS. We never ask for or store a password. |
| Name, role, school, class, district or organisation | Collected once during signup to personalise your library (e.g. showing books for your class) and, for teachers/publishers, to verify your role. |
| Reading activity | Which books you've opened, your page progress, bookmarks and notes โ so your reading picks up where you left off across sessions and devices. |
| Payment information | When you subscribe, payment is processed directly by our payment partner, Flutterwave. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and its amount/plan โ we do not receive or store your card number or mobile money PIN. |
| Device and connection data | IP address and basic device info, used to prevent abuse (e.g. scripted bulk downloading) and, for school-issued devices, to verify a device is authorised for that school's license. |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
We share the minimum necessary data with the services that make eLibrary Africa work:
We do not share your data with data brokers or advertising networks. We may disclose information if required by law.
We keep your account and reading data for as long as your account is active. Rate-limiting/security logs (like IP addresses tied to a specific request) are kept only briefly โ typically a matter of days โ purely to detect abuse patterns, then discarded.
eLibrary Africa is built for secondary school students (Uganda's S1โS6, roughly ages 13 and up) and is not directed at young children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account without appropriate oversight, please contact us and we will address it.
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit (HTTPS) and restrict who can access it internally. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, ongoing steps to protect your information and will notify affected users if we become aware of a breach involving personal data.
As a platform operating in and serving Uganda, we aim to handle personal data consistently with the principles of Uganda's Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 โ collecting only what's needed, using it for the purpose it was collected for, and keeping it secure.
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
